How to decorate with natural elements such as wood, rattan, seagrass and jute.
Natural elements and how to bring them into your home
As human beings we are drawn to natural elements such as wood, plants, stone and all things natural. I am often asked by clients how to successfully bring in natural elements into their home and also which elements will create a relaxed look.
My number one recommendation is to have some natural or organic materials as part of the architecture of your home. If you are lucky enough to have great features like stone, wooden frames and beams in your house you are very lucky. But nowadays it is so easy to add these elements later – think of using stone or brick surrounds for your fire place or added beams in your ceiling. Replacing tired flooring and carpets with solid hardwood floors are another way of bringing the elements into your home.
Another suggestion is to choose larger furniture pieces which have some wooden elements (it doesn’t have to be 100% wood) – choose upholstered chairs and sofas with wooden legs, or wooden arms and maybe both. When choosing these take into account if you already have wooden floor.
The other great advantage of wood is that it can represent so many styles. For example a highly polished gloss finish on a dining room table will be great in a more formal home, while rustic wooden items such as shelving is great for a casual home.
Another of my favorite elements are woven products such as baskets and natural rugs. The great thing about baskets is that they are ornamental and add great storage options. Why not even have woven lighting, such as rattan pendants or drum lighting with sisal or linen finishes?
Adding some texture and patterns in the way of soft furnishings is another way of adding interest in your home – choose toss pillows and throws with ethnic patterns, some even come with rope tassels and interesting trims.
And finally, plants! Plants are the easiest and best way to bring nature indoors and probably the most economical way bringing in natural elements in every room.
Below are some of the great options, these will add a natural relaxed look to your home!Shop the Look here….
