The colour palette

When choosing your colour palette make sure you have a variety of tones in the neutral realm – choose creams, ivory, oatmeal and browns, but then make sure you have balance by adding accent colours such as black. In our design the main furniture items such as the sofa and occasional chairs are neutral but we contrast these with greenery and green accessories.

In this neutral living room we have used a range of neutral colours, different textures and various patterns to create interest.

In a neutral colour palette the use of texture is absolutely the key to a great room. Create contrast with finishes and soft furnishings – think of a smooth and course, shiny and matte, man made and natural, this makes your room more dynamic.

Adding some greenery will add some interest in your otherwise neutral room.

Use textures to add warmth and interest

In this design we added a range of textures – the largest piece of furniture in the room is made from linen burlap -  a relaxed, woven look, the fabric is  strong and made from the flax plant. In contrast we have a leather matte toss cushions – natural hide with an interesting pattern. And we just love the texture of the beads, tassels and ceramic vases.

Which paint colours are the best for neutral rooms?

Choosing soft beiges and greiges are great choices for neutral rooms. Make sure you choose your beiges well as they can have warm or cool undertones. Warm beiges has warm undertones of pink, yellow, gold and orange in varying amounts. Where to use warm beiges? If your home has earthy tones and wooden elements such as wooden doors, trims and ceilings and stone detail. Combine these with natural fibres such as linen, jute and sisal.
